Types of Lights

Here is a basic rundown of lights that I have used. There are many more brands/varieties out there, these are just the ones that I have had access to/ made use of.

ETC Brand*

  • Source Four Source Four Courtesy of ETC
    • Ellipsoidal Class
    • Comes in 5º, 10º, 14º, 19º, 26º, 36º, 50º, 70º and 90º field angles (I use 19º, 26º, and 36º)
    • Great for using gobos
    • Can be shuttered
    • Rated for lamps up to 750 watts (I use 575 watt lamps)
    • Uses HPL Lamps
  • Source Four jr. Source Four jr Courtesy of ETC
    • Ellipsoidal Class
    • Slightly smaller and more compact version of the original Source Four
    • Comes in 26º, 36º, and 50º fixed-field angles
    • Also great for gobos (does not hold standard gobo rotators)
    • Can be shuttered
    • Rated for lamps up to 575 watts (This is why I use 575's, so I can buy one kind of lamps for both source fours)
    • Uses HPL Lamps
  • Source Four Par Souce Four Par Courtesy of ETC
    • Compact flood light
    • Great for bright washes and wide angles
    • Interchangable and rotatable lenses to change beam angle
    • Rated for up to 750 watts (Again, I use 575 watts because they are the same lamps as the other Source Four's)
    • Uses HPL Lamp
  • Dimmers Sensor Dimmer Rack Courtesy of ETC
    • I use ETC Brand Sensor dimming systems
    • Remember for each light/channel you have, you must have a corresponding dimmer
    • If you are using moving lights through a dimmer rack, replace the corresponding dimmer module with a constant module to provide constant power for your moving lights


  • Express 48-96 Express Control Board Courtesy of ETC
    • This is the control board that I use
    • 48 Channel Faders in 2 scene mode
    • 192 Total Channels possible
    • 24 submasters x 10 pages



High End Systems*

  • Studio Spot CMY Studio Spot Courtesy of High End Systems
    • A highly versatile moving light
    • CMY color mixing system allows for infinite color range
    • Adjustable pan, tilt and movement effects
    • Two Litho wheels that can be loaded with up to 5 Litho's each
        • Lithos can be stacked, swapped and rotated
    • Adjustable iris size
    • Shutter effects allow for strobe and other flash effects (Can be dimmed while strobing

Zero 88*

  • Leap Frog 48 Leap Frog Courtesy of Zero 88
    • This is the Control Board that I use to operate moving lights
    • 3 scroll wheels make pan, tilt and other adjustments quick and easy
    • Use the pallettes to store and mix effects
    • A combination of cues and submasters make a very smooth show

Lighting & Electronics Inc.*

  • 6" Fresnel 6" Fresnel Courtesy of L&E Inc
    • Can be focused with the slider on the bottom
    • Soft edged beam
    • Great for washes on stage
    • Rated for up to 750 watts

 

  • Single and Double Cyc A Single Cyc
    • Very broad flood light
    • Great for lighting back drops and large set pieces
    • Can be used from floor or hung
    • Turns on slowly, not great for flash effects/bumps

A Double CycA Double Cyc is basically 2 singles put together

Each light has its own plug
