Early Life
Dwayne Michael Carter, Jr. better known as Lil Wayne, is unquestionably one of the greatest rappers of his generation. At 11 years old, he convinced the Cash Money label to take him on, eventhough he was just doing odd jobs around the office. A year later, producer Mannie Fresh paired him with 14-year-old B.G. and released their first album. In 1997 they were set to release a follow up album called Chopper City, but Wayne accidently shot himself in the chest with a .44. That same year, he took the name Lil Wayne, and officially dropped the "D" from his first name.

Group to Solo
At age 15 he joined the group Hot Boys, he was the youngest member. Then, at age 17 he released his first solo album called Tha Block is Hot. His first album earned him Source magazine's "Best New Artist" award.

Record Labels
In 2005 he became president of Cash Money records, and founded Young Money Entertainment as a part of Cash Money.

Tha Carter III
Tha Carter III was released on June 10, 2008, and sold more then a million copies in the first week.The first single "Lollipop" was Lil Wayne's most commercially successful song, and also topped the Billboard Top 100, becoming Wayne's first Top 10 song.

He was nominated for 8 Grammy's, which was the most for any artist that year. He won the Grammy Award for Best Rap Solo Perfomance for "A Milli", Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group for T.I.'s single "Swagga Like Us", and Best Rap Song for "Lollipop". He also won Best Rap Album for Tha Carter III.

MTV also listed Lil Wayne number two on their list of Hottest MC's In The Game.

Family
Lil Wayne has four children, his first child, Reginae, was born to high school sweetheart "Toya" Carter, when Wayne was just 15 years old. His second child is, son, Dwayne III. His third child Lennox Samuel Ari was born to actress Lauren London. His fourth child was born to singer Nivea.
