Early Life
Scott Ramon Seguro Mescudi, better known by his stage name Kid Cudi was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio in a suburb called Shaker Heights. His father a World War II Air Force vet was Mexican, while his mother is African-American. Mescudi's father died when he was 11, and his death had a huge impact on his personality and his music.
Towards the end of his high school career was when Mescudi first started rapping. He was influenced by alternative hip hop groups such as The Pharcyde and A Tribe Called Quest.
Early Music
He moved to Brooklyn at age 20 to pursue a music career, and released his first mixtape A Kid Named Cudi. The mixtape caught Kanye West's attention, and Kid Cudi was signed to GOOD Music, later that year.
Kid Cudi was featured on Kayne West's 2008 album, 808s & Heartbreak on the track "Welcome to Heartbreak". He also helped with songwriting on "Heartless" and "Paranoid".
He was then tipped as an artist to watch for in the media in 2009.
Debut Album
Kid Cudi's debut album Man on the Moon:The End of Day was released on Universal Motown Records on September 15, 2009. It sold more then 104,419 copies in the first week and charted as #4. The albums first single "Day 'n' Nite" was Cudi's greatest commercial success so far.
Future Plans
He has released information on his blog saying there may be a collaboration album with Chip Tha Ripper in the works. He also stated in a recent interview that the follow up to Man on the Moon:The End of Day will be a collaboration album called Cudder. He said he's already worked on songs with Snoop Dogg, Travis Barker, Clipse, Cage, and Pharrell and he would like to work with Drake, Green Day, Kings of Leon, Robin Thicke, and The Killers on the album.
He has already been nominated for three Grammy Awards in 2010.
He has also announced he will have a lead role in Mark Wahlberg's comedy series, "How to Make it in America".
