Valentino Garavani was born in Voghera, Milan on May 11, 1932. In high school he showed an interest in art and soon became interested in fashion. He took courses in fashion design and studied French to get ready to move to Paris. He was seventeen years old when he arrived at the world capital of fashion and couture. Through a few years Valentino had an apprenticeship in the Fashion Houses of Jean Desses and Guy Laroche.

Valentino returned to Rome at the beginning of the 1960s; here he opened his own shop in Via Condotti. Throughout the first couple of years, many Hollywood stars who

came through Rome discovered Valentino. This determined Valentinos quick fame. Valentino’s fashion show took place in 1962 in Florence, the Italian fashion capital at that time. His first show was very successful, there were orders from foreign buyers and enthusiastic comments on the press.

By 1965 Valentino had already established himself as the leader of Italian fashion. In 1967, he received the Neiman Marcus Award from Dallas, Texas. He has designed many clothes for celebrities, like Jacqueline Kennedy, Farah Diba, and Elizabeth Taylor
